12:10 PM Beating the Odds: Mental Health First Aid for Gambling Problems

In Australia, about 20,000 people (1.1% of the adult population) can be categorized as having a gambling problem with a further 230,000 to 350,000 people experiencing moderate risks that make them vulnerable to gambling problems.

This presentation will discuss how mental health first aid training can benefit both gambling providers, people experiencing gambling problems and the wider community.

This presentation will address:
  • Mental Health First AId for Gambling Problems as an early intervention strategy
  • Discussion of how Mental Health First Aid is being used to support individuals experiencing harm from gambling.
  • Results of the evaluation of the course and it’s effectiveness in encouraging help-seeking and addressing stigma.
  • Opportunities moving forward.
